Great Fun for a Great Cause

Are you looking for something fun to do this Saturday and also support a great cause, then you need to come out to the 6th Annual Charity Chili Cook-off! It is being held at the Park at Earlyhouse in Louisa County on Saturday from 12-5pm.

This event will benefit the National Kidney Foundation and the Virginia Transplant Center at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.

Teams will be competing for bragging rites as the best Chili. There will be games and special “tricks and treats”, a juggler, music, a silent action and much more. It’s only $10 for adults and $5 for kids 3-12.

3rd Quarter Market Report, Fluvanna and Louisa

Charlottesville Association of Realtors (CAAR) released the 3rd quarter market report for the entire area, but I wanted to concentrate on Fluvanna and Louisa Counties.

Home sales were up for the first nine months,  Fluvanna (+18.8%) and Louisa (+14.3%), that equaled 227 sales for Fluvanna and 136 for Louisa.  The median prices have remained relatively unchanged, Fluvanna (+1.8%) and Louisa (+5.9%), median prices year to date are in Fluvanna $205,000 and in Louisa $221,818.  The price per square foot went down in Fluvanna from $121 in 2009 to $117 in 2010, but stay at $113 for both years in Louisa.

The average days on market have dropped in both counties, Fluvanna from 122 to 87 and Louisa from 134 to 112, which is good. As we continue in this up and down market it is very important to rely on the expertise of a REALTOR in buying or selling residential or land.

It is difficult to draw a conclusion as to how the year will end up compared to last year, the last quarter will tell that. Just remember that rates are still historically low and prices are very good.

It Feels Great to Volunteer

This past Wednesday a group of  REALTORS® from Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate III, and some others, went out to the Habitat House in Louisa to volunteer. We got there at 8:30 and were told that we were needed to paint trim work, do some dry wall and take down scaffolding. We all decided which task would fit us best and went to work.

We worked all day with a break for lunch and boy it was fun. Since most of us were REALTORS® we talked throughout the day about industry topics. The home owner came in and we got to meet her, it was a really good day.

If you are interested in volunteering with Habitat in Louisa County VA please go to this site,, if you are not in our area I am sure there is a Habitat in your area that could use your help.

Great New Dentist in Town

I can’t believe I am writing a post about a dentist and excited about it, but I am. I have never really “liked” dentists in the past, but I can say I liked this one.

If you are looking for a great dentist to go to then you need to go to Spring Creek Family Dentistry at Zion Crossroads.  I went to them for the first time and they are great! They are in a new building, with all of the new state of the art equipment and have the greatest staff you will ever meet.

They are very friendly, helpful from the moment you walk in the door and don’t try to do “unnecessary” work just to get extra money. Please visit their site at
